sun or regular and contacts available on the web. I've always thought it should be cheaper. I uploaded a pic then selected shape and material type and tried them on. For this freebie selected 4 and then was stumped by not the prescription but the mm dimensions on nose, arm, lens. No metric here, That's a problem. They told us is 76 it would be. I tried to learn it and teach it to a home schooled kid. Math or metric is beyond me.
Karen even tried to help me in math. I took that over in summer school too. I've taken it about 6 times to pass the cbest teachers exam, English, vocab. is never a problem.
A martini at a bar in NYC goes in a martini for a proposal, anniversary or special occasional. cool if it can be in another drink, I hate martinis, dirty or clean, but not vodka.
Off to wast my hair, Jim is coming for lunch, as he said, skim the movie social network for us "us time."
Ephran/Sergio was here Fri. I'm concerned he's getting serious and I like him but I am not and he's over 10 yrs younger. He's talking about a Valentine's gift and sitting on the deck for a bbq. He wants to take me to see a movie we like and all these future events, Nice maybe, but not good, he will be hurt.

free bagle w a shmear
available from Einstein bagel.
Went to bed early, 10:30, like a normal person and was up at 4 read till 7 and made oatmeal and vacuumed. Off to get free glasses look at coastal contacts, info on Good Morning America web site.
I'm off for a brief errand. When did panties start selling for 16 and 20 dollars a pair? I don't like bikini any, more but high cut I do briefs. They have to cover my tummy. We had to get stockings every week , no pantie hose then. Stockings came in a box in 7th and 8th grade from Kliens.
Gee some of these things I haven't seen or had since Karen and I used to go to Tyson's corner every Sat.our routine for our record, hotdog, fries and a sherry Coke. Then I had 2. in yellow and pink, how can I remember that9 th grade? 1968
We spent the night and while I slept in she went home. Thanks mom for always driving us there and picking us up.
Teens really do have a lot of disposable income from babysitting my 50 cents an hr and .75 after midnight hr. Karen worked at Koon's Ford after school in the office, already training for a career and trying to tutor me on the bus too. She learned some Spanish and I did too even if I repeated it in summer school. I studied the 2nd yr.
Tried to get those free glasses today took too long and although I have the perscription, the mm dimentions of the frame baffeled me. They also said they were inside the arm of the glasses but the werent.

Joann Weir presents
Have you ever watched her cooking show on what I call my Sat. morning cartoons? She seems to film in Napa, but she is based in SF. For a mere 1000. for a class on various things, this month it's pizza and pasta. I'd like to go with her tours from Provence to Tuscany.
Gas is up to 329 on it's way to 4. again.
I've started preliminary tax prep for this year and I may actually keep up for next.
Did u know up to 350 is deductible from a weight loss program. Here comes weight Watchers too bad its not the Kaiser pgm. I think that one is near 8 thousand. I just need the button that boots my butt out of bed and to the pool and treadmill for an hr. each and a few machines to boot. i wonder when gym membership will be deductible. If over a certain limit medical expenses and PT are.

SMOKED CHEDDAR TWISTS
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup cake flour
1/4 teaspoon cayenne
½ cup coarsely grated smoked cheddar
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 teaspoon salt
12 tablespoons butter, cut into 1/2" cubes
2 teaspoon lemon juice
1/4 cup ice water
Mix the all-purpose flour, cake flour, cayenne, cheddar and salt together and place in freezer one hour before use.
In a separate bowl, place the butter in the freezer one hour before use.
Place the ice-cold flour mixture on a work surface and add the ice-cold butter and with a metal pastry scraper, cut the butter into pieces the size of peas and cornmeal. Alternately this can be done in the food processor by pulsing. Place the mixture in a bowl. Combine lemon juice and ice water and add enough of the liquid until it almost holds together.
Turn out onto a lightly floured board and press together as best you can to form a rough rectangle shape. There will be large chunks of butter showing. Do not knead. Roll out dough into a 1/2" thick rectangle. Fold the narrow ends towards the center to meet in the center. Fold in half again so that there are four layers. This is your first turn.
Turn the dough a quarter of a turn and roll again to form a rectangle 1/2" thick. Repeat the folding process. This is your second turn. Turn the dough a quarter of a turn and roll again to form a rectangle 1/2" thick. Fold into thirds as you would a letter. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill 45 minutes.
Preheat oven to 400F.
On a well floured surface, with a rolling pin, roll the dough to a 1/8" rectangle, approximately 7-inches by 15-inches. Trim the edges. Cut the dough into sticks 7"-inches by 1/2-inch. Twist them slightly. Place them on a baking sheet 1-inch apart. Bake until golden and crisp, 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool on the baking sheets. Remove with a spatula.

BUTTERNUT SQUASH RAVIOLI WITH HAZELNUT BUTTER AND PARMESAN
2 lb. butternut squash
3/4 cup fresh bread crumbs
2 tablespoons plus 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
2 teaspoons honey
1/2 teaspoon fresh chopped thyme
1/2 teaspoon fresh chopped rosemary
1/2 teaspoon fresh chopped sage
1 teaspoon grated orange zest
Nutmeg to taste
Salt and freshly ground pepper
1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil
2 ounces prosciutto, thinly sliced, cut into 1/4" strips
1 teaspoon walnut or hazelnut oil
1/3 cup hazelnuts, chopped
6 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 lb. egg pasta dough
Preheat an oven to 350o F. Cut squash in half, place on an oiled baking sheet and bake until easily skewered, 50 to 60 minutes. Remove the seeds and skin and discard. Mash the pulp with a potato masher or by pulsing a few times in a food processor. Place the squash, bread crumbs, 2 tablespoons Parmesan, honey, thyme, rosemary, sage, orange zest and nutmeg in a bowl. Mix well and season to taste with salt and pepper.
In a small frying pan over medium heat, heat the olive oil. Cook the prosciutto until light golden, 4 to 5 minutes. Remove with slotted spoon and reserve. Add the nut oil and hazelnuts, and cook, stirring occasionally until light golden, 3 minutes. Remove from the pan. In a saucepan over medium high heat, melt the butter and cook it until it turns brown and just begins to smoke, 3 to 4 minutes. Remove immediately from the heat and add nutmeg.
Cut the dough into 4 pieces. Using a pasta machine, roll the pasta until you can almost see your hand through the dough. Place the sheet of pasta on a well floured work surface. Spoon a heaping teaspoon of squash filling at one end of the dough, just below the center of the dough. Continue to place mounds of filling all the way down the dough leaving approximately 1 1/2" between each mound. With a spray bottle filled with water, spray the edges with a very light mist of water. Fold the top half of the dough over the squash filling to encase the filling and seal around the edges. With a zig-zag roller, trim the long side close to the edge and discard. Cut in between each ravioli.
Bring a large pot of boiling salted water to a boil. Add the ravioli and cook until tender 2 to 3 minutes. Drain and place in a large serving bowl. Toss carefully with the brown butter. Garnish with prosciutto, hazelnuts and Parmesan. Serve immediately
Serves 6 to 8
EGG PASTA DOUGH
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 whole eggs
1 tablespoon water
In the bowl to the food processor, pulse together the flour and salt. Add the eggs and water and process until the dough forms a soft ball but is not sticky. If so, add more flour a tablespoon at a time until it isn't sticky. Remove the dough from the food processor bowl and knead on a very lightly floured board until soft and smooth, 2 to 3 minutes. Let the dough rest wrapped in plastic wrap for at least 30 minutes.

sinful crepes
Today is the second day of a week long class I'm teaching in my kitchen called "50 Techniques in 5 Days." Not sure why I named the class that? It actually sounds like real school and kind of intimidating. But I think when we began the first tester crepe today, the intimidation began. But as you soon realize, it's all about texture. The crepe batter should be the consistency of thick heavy cream. We definitely had to add a little extra milk to get it just right.
When I was in France a few years ago visiting my friends at Mauviel, they gave me a beautiful heavy copper 8-inch crepe pan. We used it today but I remember when I worked at Chez Panisse, the pastry chefs made three crepes at a time. I worked in pastry too for a while but I never had to do that, thank God. I'd watch David Lebovitz as he flipped crepes, every one coming out perfectly. It's all about trial and error and practice, isn't it?
Today, we filled the crepes with creamy wild mushrooms and prosciutto. Everyone was swooning, eyes rolling back in their head. Absolutely amazing!
I promised you the recipe... Here you go!
BAKED CREPES WITH CREAMY WILD MUSHROOMS AND PROSCIUTTO
1/2 ounce dried wild mushrooms
6 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 medium yellow onion, minced
1/2 pound fresh button mushrooms, thinly sliced
6 ounces thinly sliced prosciutto, cut into thin strips
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
3/4 cup grated Parmigiano Reggiano
1 recipe Crespelle or Crepes
2 tablespoons fine dry bread crumbs
Pour 2 cups of boiling water over the dried mushrooms and let sit 30 minutes. Drain well and reserve the water. Chop the mushrooms coarsely. Filter the mushroom water through a paper towel-lined strainer and reserve the mushrooms and mushroom water separately.
Heat 2 tablespoons of the butter in a frying pan over medium heat. Add the onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until soft, 7 minutes. Add the fresh mushrooms and continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until the mushrooms have evaporated their liquid, 10 minutes. Add the chopped soaked wild mushrooms and continue to cook 1 minute. Add the reserved mushroom water, turn the heat to high and simmer, stirring constantly, until almost dry, 10 minutes. Turn the heat to medium, add the prosciutto, and continue to cook 2 minutes.
Melt 3 tablespoons of the butter in a saucepan over low heat. Add the flour and stir constantly for 2 minutes. Add the milk, stirring constantly, and cook until the mixture thickens, 2 to 3 minutes. Add the mushroom mixture and mix well. Add 1/2 cup of the Parmigiano Reggiano and season with salt and pepper.
Preheat the oven to 425° F. Butter the bottom and sides of a 9 X 12-inch baking dish.
Place a crepe flat on the work surface. Spread half of it with a few tablespoons of filling. Fold in half, then quarters. Stand the triangles in a baking dish, overlapping one another with the curved side up. Repeat. Melt the remaining 1 tablespoon butter and brush on the tops of the crepes. Combine the remaining ¼ cup grated Parmigiano Reggiano and the bread crumbs. Sprinkle over the top. Bake the crepes until golden on top, about 20 minutes. Allow crepes to cool for 10 minutes before serving.
Makes 12 crepes to serve 6
CREPES
CRESPELLE
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups milk
4 eggs
4 to 5 tablespoons unsalted butter
Put the flour and salt in a bowl and add the milk slowly, a little at a time, mixing vigorously with a fork to avoid lumps. Add 1 egg at a time, beating rapidly with a fork after each addition. Let batter rest 30 minutes.
Oil the bottom of an 8-inch crepe pan with 1 teaspoon of the butter to start. Place the pan over medium heat. Stir the batter, pour 1/3 cup into the pan, and rotate to completely cover the bottom of the pan. As soon as the batter has set, loosen the crepe with a spatula and flip the crepe. When the other side is firm, remove the crepe and place it on a plate. Repeat with the rest of the batter, stirring the batter occasionally and adding butter to the pan as needed. Crepes can be stacked on top of one another until ready to use.

soup

Where did my 2 yrs of blogs go?
I have the flu and have for the t days. I have been on soup and have no real desire for anything, which is an added benefit. I've tried some hot Thai soup from the farmers market and the broth was good for me and I likes the mushrooms and lemon grass. I preferred it to the satay I got, but can only have it when my taste buds are shot. It was more broth than the one creamy w coconut creme, mushrooms and baby corn. They can keep the broth I like the soup part the best. Michael got me another w shrimp that had a little kick and I normally would not have ever gotten something hot but I tried it and it was good. Nice to be introduced to new things by him; when I visit him in SF I wast him to take me to one up there and pick another. He likes the tea which he says cuts the heat.
Want to see social network toy story 3, harry potter 1 and 2 in Nov, the children are alright and a few others.
It's been in the 70's for the last 2 weeks so this wk. I need to trim and clean up the yard and probably again around Easter.
I discovered redbox movies for 1.. I like it better than netflix.
I need to cut the lemon tree in 1/2. It's trying to eat my orange tree. I want the oranges to squeese more. I'll pick a bag of lemons for Caro.
Made some lasagna. U want to make some mac and cheese comfort food.
Then try all the free gym memberships.
Started volunteering for partners for reading and I have a 2nd grader 2x a wk for an hr.

and went to lunch at Fresh Choice. I almost fell asleep during the C/D. it's a shoot em up. i want to see her next one Tourist too.
Now, I'm trying to stay up and finish this Harry Potter movie so it can go back.
It was nice to have a long soak in the tub today too.
Made some more oatmeal, got some more nail clippers, I keep losing the big ones and some tomato and flour seeds.
It's cold out there and below freezing at night.
I'm so tired.
Lacy is sniggled up next to me or the heater when it's on to 60 for company.

Happy New Year
After 2 failed versions of my cranberry bread the 3rd was the charm. It's really excellent.
This one was w one stick of butter, 2 c flour added after butter and 1 c sugar are creamed together w 2 eggs and 1 t baking powder and a 1/2 t soda. 1/3c, OJ, any pulp and rind, no pith or white grated, chop 1-2 c cranberries see cooks recipe online bake at 350 for 1 hr and 15 min. In the last 5 min paint top w butter and sprinkle turbo sugar. Butter pan and sprinkle w sugar. knock out access.
For the 2nd yr. I didn't make any Christmas cookies. I almost gave up on this bread and then I was going to make some but this came through.
I'm also making butternut squash soup again. I bakes a butternut squash w seeds scooped out after baking between 375 and 380 for between 40-60 min. Let cool and scoop out. Cook diced celery, carrot, onion or leeks or shallots, peel and chop or grate apple add curry powder, cinnamon, heat the off heat add, add coconut milk, creme fresh or sour creme or yogurt to taste and serve hot.
I have a Dr's apt. today. My back has been really bad. The week around Thanksgiving seemed fine. Thanksgiving it seemed fine. Then I started celebrating my birthday the week or so before. I saw Patrick on Thurs. for a long 12 hrs. and then Fri. had dinner w Ron and he was here past midnight and I was exhausted. on Sunday Michael came by for lunch and Thai, At &7 Arturo came by to fix my patio door which was nice. It took him no time since he had the part and also leveled it so I didn't strain my back to open and close it. For the first time in more than 6 mo. when Emma broke the handle off. Afterwards, Ron came back. He and Patrick and i have these marathon dates and have such a fun time and just laugh our asses off.
Michael, the Dr. called but I really didn't want to see him. He's nice enough, but for example instead of taking me to dinner he met me for tea and or in my case water. Then I saw him once more a day or so later. He wanted to extend the first meeting but I wanted to get home to see dancing with the stars. Now that's hooked.
My sweet friend John took me to dinner for my birthday a nit early on Sun. My back was really hurting and there were moments a totally froze. Forget about getting pantie hose on or off that left leg. I have to push it off w my foot.
On my actual birthday Caro met me for dinner at Citrus. Afterwards it went down hill from that Wed until John took me to dinner on that Sunday. It was excellent. I likes it better than Citrus at 1/2 the price, I should hate gotten lobster there. The risotto w butternut squash was OK but i sent both the french onion soup and risotto back for some doctoring, The best thing was the french veggie salad for 12.00 and roasted asparagus, For dessert they gave me creme brule. Caro ordered an expensive glass of wine and meant to get the price fixed dinner steak, soup and dessert, but the waiter gave him a larger steak and ended up charging me the 6 dollars more. These things make a difference to me.
Then I had dinner w Bob on Mon.. somewhere in there. The first and only time I've been to Applebee's. A fair place, I think I had a half a something salad. It wasn't quite enough. I wanted to finish his Caesar that he got w his chili.
M TV is still messes up and freezes I need to talk to Toshiba and should not have bought it from Circuit City or the floor model and paid full price.
It's time for a nap I woke at 1:30. and its 8 but I have an apt. at 11.
Met a new man from Santa Cruz, David and we went out for dinner on Tues and he called to make another date for dinner on New Year's Day. I talk but for a cellular phone sales rep I find it hard to get him to start talking much. He
has never married. he's from FL. and PA. has one sister and neither of them have kids. He brought dinner and drinks. I made some stuffed spinach feta mushrooms, I also had some red roasted pepper humus w toasted pine nuts w lemon pita chips.. which were fine at 6 but he was late then sat down awhile with the champagne to talk. by 9 when we got to them a bit dried out. He brought tofu curry salad, a pea something, turkey salad and one more thing, OJ and mimosa vodka; and raspberries. I poured him some of my left over champagne from John's belated birthday celebration here the night before or afternoon He was here from 3:30 to 7:30 or so. He brought the champagne and truffles, He brought them once before for Easter I think, I just finished the last 2 one was a raspberry ganache. In addition he brought creme brule truffles. After he left to be with his grown daughters and ex family I had a truffle with champagne and raspberries,
The first date seemed better with David. This one I had great expectations for and anticipation is a good thing. But I'm not sure about him and out compatibility. That will work or not, no need to push.
On Sunday I had another truffle with OJ and raspberries. Now that was perfect. Yummy, I hit the farmers market and got more dolmens and pita chips, ,beets, apples, tomatoes, 2 "cuties" and the holiday yeast dinner rolls. They only sell them only a few times a year. 10 min in the oven at 400 and yeasty, perfect Yum.
I started on my taxes. This is the first time w effectively no income and no deduction from the house.
I rented the Harry Potter movie and Salt and fell asleep on the computer and watching the movie. I slept very poorly the night before and ended up doing the wash and then washing the bedspread.
It's finally warming up.
Onward, tonight I had a date with Bob again, OOPS, he called in sick and I need the sleep so that's fine and next week too for dinner. He is down here working on a contract basis for Lockheed. He goes in at 5. I'd die or have to stay up all night, He said he'd call at 3 when he gets off.
I may get a handicapped placard the Dr signed the form, He didn't demure/`
I need to call my lawyer and see what's going on with this.
