Sleeping the rainy day away

The movie the Fighter wasn't my cup of tea. The world of wrestling and drugs and all the sleasy Lowell, MA lifestyle Isn't for me.

Capitola is flodded for the 2nd time. Rivers of water rolled into the village 2 days in a row. Millions of dollars in merchandise was destroyed. Govt. emergency money will be tapped.

Just made chicken orange w dijon and brown and wild rice.

Another 6.5 earthquake tonight and a tsunami alert is out. Radiation detected in MA and CA. My friend in SAC. sacramento not strategic command center as my friend thought, says Russia was testing in the 70's underground and it showed up here then too.

Not sleeping

I need to start a new blog. I am writing but although the text entry are saved they are in draft form.
Yesterday I volunteered at the Scholastic book fair at school. I've run 4 but not for 2 years. I enjoyed talking to the parents and kids in English and Spanish. I know so many of the titles and authors and really wanted to see what the latest are.

I came home tired but determined to make another batch of oatmeal raisin cookies. I gave Kirk AND Caro MY OTHER'S. I had the energy to mix and bake one doz. Then heated up the potatoes and carrots and sliced some of the left over corned beef from Mon. It may be the leanest I've ever had, I put the trimmings out on the deck with the chicken heart and whatever else was in the chicken when I poached it to make stock and they are gone in the morning. It could be possum which also eats things green or the feral patio cats which do not. Possum scare me. They look vicious, when in fact I was once attacked on my back by Brutus, the semi tame feral cat. I was watering and turned the hose on him. He terrorizes Lacy. She likes to sit in the window and look at him.

Kirk came over for dinner and we had left over corned beef and carrots and potatoes. It was the easiest of which I was glad because my back hurt. Afterwards we sat and talked about Japan and Libya and religion and outer worldly things. He is very well informed especially about things CA since his mom, Jane WAS A WRITER.
Then we spread out a sheet on the floor in front of the fire and covered with Connie's and aunt Francis afghans listened to Shirley McClain's meditation tape. We both floated off and dozen a bit. He came at 4 and stayed till 12 30 or so when I couldn't keep my eyes open after taking a muscle relaxer and a pain pill and doing the closed eye aligning of our chakras.

We talked about not seeing other people. And I'm really not too interested if I could have a bit more of his time and attention. He is a little order than I, born in the same year. He has not intention or desire to get married nor does he want to live with anyone. I know that. He only wants to see me once a week. I don't know if that is OK. I'm falling for him and I haven't felt this way in a very long time.
It's a bit scary and exposed.

Tired

I ran all over to Safeway and Savemart looking for wheat berries to go with the dried fruit I had soaking. Finally at 1 a.m. I remembered that in addition to whole wheat gluten I got some at Nobb Hill where the rich people live in Los Gatos. I tried to chop the 3/4 c in the Cuisinart, It may have split them but nothing really happened. They need a food mill like Kirk uses. I wonder if the coffee grinder in the store would do it without tasting too much like coffee if I try to clean it there. Anyway it was 1 amd I threw them in the dried fruit soaking water and threw them after an hr back into the Cuisinart. It may have split them and chopped them in half but not much more. They needed every bit of the 90 min soak. I gave them almost that, not enough, and threw them into the bread mix. I hoped the yeast fed off the gluten and world rise. I added the slurry and flipped the dough hook on the kitchen aide and went back to bed to reading and since it was late almost fell asleep. I put the product on a flowered board. I prepared 2 bread pans, kneaded it a bit and placed them in the oven to rise for an hr.. Finally, at 4 I baked them for 30 min with only one rising. The first hot slice freaked me out because the wheat berries could have cracked a tooth. The next two were delicious if u discount the fact that you need to dodge the wheat berries. They will pass and clean the colon I guess!
Kirk is comming at 4. Unfortunately he will test and judge my poor efforts. There were a few other things too, like too much honey and one other thing, either the milk or the olive oil.
I hadn't used this set of measuring spoons in a long while and I used the 1T spoon and put it in to soak and then saw another and used it, but belatedly saw it was 4T! HA! It was late or early and I was too tired to be doing that.

I'm off to teach. I volunteer 1 hr 2x a week with a 2nd grader, teaching reading. In addition, I'm volunteering in the library, They are having a book fair. Since I've done 4, the least I can do is help. I get to see that new books are out I've missed too. For elementary, Emily.

Bread, Wheat Berry by Kirk McClelland

1 Tablespoon plus 1 tsp. active dry Yeast
4-Tablespoon Dried Milk
½ Cup Gluten
¾ Cup Oatmeal
2 ½ Cups Sifted Bread Flour
1-cup whole-wheat flour
2-Tablespoon Olive Oil
2 ½ Tablespoon Honey

2/3 Cup Raisins
¾ Cup Crushed Wheat Berries
1 ½ Cup Water

Soak crushed wheat berries and raisins in water for 90 minutes before bake.

Add raisins, wheat berries and water to the rest of the ingredients.

He has a b machine. I'll be using pans.

I tried to chop the fruit prunes and dates in the Cuisinart and it didn't work to well. Carolina tols me they would be too gummy and I added a little flour and they are soaking now. Usually I'll use raisins. He used prunes the first time I had it on our first dinner date that awesome post Valentine's date that lasted 10 hrs.

I don't know why these are not posting. The drafts save. Some of my email take forever to send too, I'm not liking gmail too much.

I saved 35 dollars with coupons at the grocery story. Granted it took me 2 hrs. I have to also watch the ad's. Caro makes a list by store.

Jim helped me put things away, or he carried my last heavy bag into the kitchen and was stunned at all the food. He said he wouldn't know what to do with all that food. I still need to get some tomatoes and paste and a few other things too.
Time to empty my freezer, clean it too and list what is where and turn it over. I know I have things frozen, like lemon juice, and soups i need to dump or use. Bread for sure that needs to go.

This loaf I hope will be the best of the 3 loaves I've made in the last week.

I'm also going to make a Bean soup with squash and spinach.

Training for the 2 day, 60 mile Walk for the cure for Breast cancer. and swimming.

Must loose this weight for my heart and back.

Spring HA!

Caro and vineyards and hills in the rain

Tomorrow is the 1st day of spring and I went to Caro's to do taxes, visit and have a great dinner. She is such a multi talented woman. She does the books for Teatro Vision and is going to the gala tonight. She is 66 and just started taking social security. She is a great cook and made a marinated skirt steak, rice, broccoli and a salad w beets, avocado, mescaline from her garden. I am not a fan, I don't like raddicio either; and red onion. It was so good. I've not had so much or so balanced food in awhile.

Like Prikikin, eat well, of the right foods in the right proportions and u r full. I'm doing the oatmeal, I just need to do soups too some lentil, potato leek, split pea, barley and other lo fat ones to eat every day, If I loose 60 lbs I may be able to wear heels. At this weight to wear them on Wed,it was agony.

This is the first time without a house deduction as small as it was. Maybe I shouldn't have doubled payments. It would have only been 129. or so.
Anyway, I can always have a 2nd with the house as collateral for a loan to remodel the kitchen. I still have lights, cabinets and counters to replace, not to mention the oven and maybe the sink a water filter. Although I did the dishwasher I need a new pipe that moves the water from the outlet to the top shelf. It is so poorly designed.

Tomorrow is also the Persian. Iranian New Year. The Iranian bakery was packed.

Since it poured the roads were bad, but not too many people went out. The flowering white trees look really good as they drunk up the rain.

I'm going to sell the rest of Dow. I forgot I had more with the company not just w Schwab. I just need to determine when it was bought.

Michael do u know? Mom bought it for me as a gift to minor. I'm guesstimating 76.

I think I may get a body wave. I'm tired of my thin, shoulder length hair not holding any curl. Rollers or electric curlers it's flat in one min. I wish I could have a pic. of what it would look at first. I could experiment with styles. They do that with glasses. You can try them on virtually. I'm sure I can do it with hair too, just helmet headed..

waterspout sighted

If it was over land rather than the ocean it would have been a tornado. Alerts were given to shelter in place or in bathrooms and if u were driving to pull over. Yikes, lightening and heavy rain are rare here,

I am still queasy, I made some oatmeal raisin cookies tonight and played some bridge.

Earthquake in Japan

my Prius is in the background of the house, spring is here.

Happy St. Paddies Day! My soda bread with yeast was better this time but still needs work.

Kirk was coming over, but I'm still queasy and he strained his back working on a retaining wall. I need to light a fire, give him one of m muscle relaxers and pain pills and put on some nice music why we each collapse on a couch. He says he's walking gingerly. He had a 3 day sail to Angel island overnight this weekend he had been looking forward to. I once camped out overnight there. (It was a Japanese/Chinese immigration station and generally all visitors have to be off the island at night. This was scheduled through the Sierra club I think.) Fortunately he had a dry run dinner last weekend. A very interesting man.

Poor Japan, I can't imagine the wave and melt down. How horrible.

I had lunch today with a lawyer and he will do my living trust. i need to get my medical power of attny,. directive and will updated.
Terry is nice, about Bob's age, in relatively good health for a man who underwent radiation 3 wks ago,

I am really enjoying Kirk. He's the photographer, my age that cooks. Last week he made a loaf of bread for me to take home. He's got the hot tub and we take turns cooking, and hosting. Initially we individually cooked. That knocked me out. So I requested we share the preparation.

Still haven't heard about the disability ruling.

We see each other once a week but he's been making me want to see him more. This week because he is sailing all weekend and sleeping on the boat, we are seeing one another on Thurs, I have a craving for egg rolls, so if I get inspired I'll make those and or orange beef or oyster beef and brown rice or shrimp scampi with salad.

I made some bread on Mon, with some yeast he gave me. Didn't make his good w wheat bread. Made 2 loaves of white Amish, One as a cranberry, raisin cinnamon and the other plain. As a consequence, I made pancakes Mon., Tues. french toast and today oatmeal with raisins, vanilla and cinnamon to settle my queasy stomach. It's been bad for 3 days.

Today the Thai chicken satay and summer roll probably didn't help. I knew not to get my usual yellow curry. I just had some rice to mop up the acid in my rolling belly, chicken carrots and broccoli w teriyaki chicken.

I need to let Efrain go. Patrick too needs to go.

Jim, despite the age and he smokes is OK to do things with sometimes. We may go see the King's Speech or Lincoln Lawyer or The fighter. I didn't like social network much despite the fact it skipped. Red box took it out of play and gave me a credit. I like those machines.

1. Four places I go: home, Starbucks, Savemart, Noah's bagels, Kirk's house, Trader Joe's,

2. Four favorite smells: Garlic, Clam chowder , strawberry pie, tea, earl grey, freshly made bread, especially Kirk's

3. Four people I think will respond: Karen, Kim, Caro, Marilyn,

4. TV shows I watch: Grey's Anatomy, Brothers and Sisters, desperate Housewives, Private Practice and Jeopardy

I read all 3 Swedish novels on The girl with the dragon tattoo.

I need to repack the car and my backpack for disaster with shoes, boots, food for me and Lacy for a week, my tent, sleeping bag, tent, stove, mess kit, water, flashlight, garbage bags, bleach, first aide kit, utensils, shovel, money, credit cards, clothes, crowbar?, gloves, duct tape, safety pins, clothes, leach and maybe the carrier for Lacy. sunglasses, passport, waterproof sack backpack cover, go to school if I can not stay in my driveway or back yard. I also have a backpacking hatchet, so I need matches and or a lighter. In 89 or so after the Loma Prieta earthquake I started carrying tennis shoes in the car in case I was stuck in dress shoes. I wore heels today and couldn't stand it. I can't walk on the tiny heel and put my weight on the sole any more. I'm fallen out of the habit. I need a crank radio and would also like a hd radio.

I do know the ocean won't get over the Santa Cruz mountains to me. I will make Michael my contact person if any one wants to know if I'm o.k.

This morning Lacy was sitting in the window looking out at the deck and backyard when Vinnie the small dog from the corner came barking his head off at her. She sat peacefully, until I got a leash and took him through the house to the front door. She flew down the hall to the safety of our room.
His owner David, The crazy man on the corner was looking for him and told me I have a hole in my fence. That is how the tiny hot dog of my house keeper, kept getting out. I will take the extra boards I saved from my fence replacement and plug the hole temporarily. I was going to make a new gate.

Just made some Irish soda bread with raisins. I cheated and added a bit of yeast an extra egg and buttermilk, It's better but still soda bread, but it beats the boring Monday white bread. That had no texture bubbles. I hope that and the soup will sop up the acid in my tummy.

I'm learning to tweet.

This weekend I'm seeing Rudolfo Anaya's, Bless me Ultima. Then, a movie with Jim and taxes on Sat. The fighter is out on Red box now.
